‘The Dufftown Committee has now been fund raising for Cancer Research UK for over 23 years and over that time has raised the magnificent amount of over £240,000 which is a great achievement. The challenge for a committee such as Dufftown is to get commitment from the community over many years, as a charity we rely on the long term commitment of our supporters such as Dufftown to raise funds for our vital research into cancer.
We receive no government funding towards our research. Cancer survival rates have doubled over the last 40 years thanks to the generosity of supporters like Ian, Sandra and the rest of the Dufftown Committee.
Cancer Research UK funds a number of researchers at the University of Aberdeen. Also people in and around Aberdeen and the North of Scotland and the Islands are helping our research by taking part in clinical trials for a number of cancers, including lung, ovarian and pancreatic cancers. One in three people will get cancer sometime in their life.
The success of committees like this relies on the support and generosity of members of the public and support from communities such as Dufftown.
